Don't believe the good reviews of Future

Pros

The creative teams, who barely got paid to live in this expensive area, were all amazing, passionate people that made quitting very difficult. We were like a family struggling to stay on a sinking raft. Upside, nearly everyone in the tech and games industry has worked at Future and oftentimes, you can bond over how miserable it is/was to work there. Anything higher than two stars for this company was either a brand new employee or upper management writing.

Cons

-There are no bonuses, there are no raises -They will shuffle your role at least twice, and one of those times will be a title demotion -Management is horrible; unless you're sucking up constantly to the UK, you will be a nameless peon of the Future mass -People were hired and fired, constantly. Lay offs of veteran Future workers happened every few months as well, and now there's probably only a handful of people there who've stayed 5 years or longer so don't expect to make this a long term career if you somehow decide to work there -Management puts inexperienced people in charge who only want to further their own careers at the expense of their peers below them -HR was great, then they fired the US HR team, then fired the one person later; HR is in the UK and not helpful at all -There's a huge disconnect between the US and UK but neither office has it better than the other; management across the board is horrendous and there is very little transparency -The CEO doesn't know anyone beyond her bubble in the UK -The US team is now a skeleton office of about 15 people or less.

Thanks for taking some time to leave a review. We are disappointed to hear how you feel your experience at Future was. Over the last year we have held regular feedback interviews with selected employees from across the group to gain their thoughts and recommendations so we can continuously improve Future. Based on your comments, we assume that you were part of our Future team in the US. The feedback we receive from our US team is markedly different from what you describe. As well, some of your assertions, such as the average tenure of our team and the amount of time the management team spends in the US, which is significant, aren’t accurate. It’s regrettable you left with the perception you currently hold as the US business is very important to us and we are investing in growing our teams in key locations. Bonuses are something that we have implemented this year and we are very proud to be paying everyone in Future a share of our profits and we expect this to continue in line with our success.

Pros

Unlimited time off (If you've cleared the deck to use it) Well known brands (PC Gamer, TechRadar, etc) Talented and motivated people You can work on subjects that you care about

Cons

You'll be woefully underpaid for what you do Ever changing work loads (goalposts constantly moved) Emphasis on clicks and rankings over quality of content Using time off is a rarity due to heavy work loads Few chances (if any) to move up the ladder The work can be very repetitive You won't be very well valued or listened to Pay rises are uncommon and very minor Every decision comes down from the CEO It's always quantity over quality

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. We agree with you, our employees are absolutely talented and motivated people, so we're sorry to hear you're not feeling valued or listened to. We've been working to give you more opportunities to progress internally, speak up and feel heard, like with our recent engagement survey. We're working hard to turn your valuable feedback into positive change so if you have more suggestions on how we can improve we encourage you to contact us directly.
