Pros

On the surface level, the company gives the appearance of being caring, inclusive, concerned with diversity etc. This is not reflected in how it actually operates. It is utterly ruthless in its business operations.

Cons

Beware of the recent positive reviews on here which are mostly written by their HR team, along with their 'comebacks' to criticism in reviews which are delivered in a tone and style that no professional company would ever use. This company fears anything potentially damaging to its share price value and reputation. It knows that it is in a precarious position with the constant seeds of discontent it has sown among staff, present and former. Future is a downmarket publisher whose over inflated stock market value has been driven by an aggressive mergers and acquisition strategy that focuses on short term gains at the expense of the publications and brands it purchases. There is no true value here. The 'growth' is entirely dependent on this continuous spending spree - but what happens when there are no publications left to purchase? Look underneath the hood of this company and you will see there is no revolutionary long-term business plan, no innovative tech and nothing much of substance. The executive team are entirely focused on their bonuses and over inflated remuneration packages. The ‘down to earth’ CEO cashed in 14 million of shares upon purchasing TI Media last year - where she is now quietly laying off hundreds of staff members. In an attempt to create a corporate culture, patronising mantras like 'success matters' and 'we all row the boat ' are drummed into staff. While on track to make a record breaking profit in 2020, this company is quietly gutting its teams. It cares little about content or the people who create it. If you are a professional person with integrity, intelligence, ethics and any semblance of taste - you should avoid Future at all costs. It is not a company that is taken seriously by anyone in media, tech or publishing.

You clearly had some things you wanted to get off your chest. It’s a shame you didn’t bring your concerns to your manager or the People & Culture team when you were here and helped bring about the change you feel is necessary. Let’s tackle some of your points. Yes, Future has made a lot of acquisitions over the last couple of years. In a time where the entire publishing industry is facing troubling times, Future’s strategy of focusing on passionate brands with passionate audiences has rescued many organizations on the brink of cutting many jobs. The pace at which these acquisitions have happened has been incredible, and if we’re all being honest with ourselves a little more chaotic than we were prepared for. But we’ve learned and we’ve grown and the entire organization is constantly better for it. And yes, our leadership are rewarded when the organization is doing well! That’s business. With any big acquisition as well as the unstoppable wheel of progress, comes the realization that the some of the work we are doing has changed and therefore we need to make decisions about roles and structures that aren’t always easy. We have a process in place for identifying possible new positions for these people, but the truth is it’s not always possible to hold onto someone and those people are let go. It’s not a process anyone here enjoys, and every effort is made to ensure alternatives are explored before they are let go. Each person who works within our many brands works tirelessly to serve their audiences, and our backoffice teams have worked tirelessly in 2020 to ensure the other teams are supported in the middle of this global crisis. I’m one of those backoffice folk who doesn’t work in HR and I can vouch for the passion and integrity of my colleagues who genuinely do “all row the boat”. I’m scrolling back through our reviews and I see a whole variety of colleagues from across our business leaving positive and constructive reviews. And I respond in the way Future has empowered me to - with honesty and personality! Good luck with your next endeavor.

Pros

Casual work attire, working from home and you aren't be penalised for being 5 minutes late. The work environment is mostly good due to working colleagues on the same level being a decent lot in my experience of several years, even with business slowly cracking around me.

Cons

Future is intent on reducing teams to breaking point whereby some critical employees are laid off and their responsibilities passed onto others who have no understanding or training of those responsibilities. And I don't mean minor roles, these are roles which functioned flawlessly and brought financial benefits, which can no longer be properly handled (or done at all) after the layoffs. Culling staff is a yearly event, starting in November. It's become the normality for a number of years. I've seen colleagues go into consultation days before Christmas for the past two years. To save money Future aims looks to fill jobs with graduates where possible. The cost cutting exercise throughout the business is draining the business of experienced employees. The company has a mission to cut costs to become profitable, it makes less money each year so the answer is keep squeezing the overheads regardless of consequences. It's effectively speeding up it's own decline as it just gets worse at delivering. There's absolutely no career development, training, or support from managers. As an employee of Future you either sink or swim. Ask a manager for help/advice on an assigned task from them and you often get nothing back, they simply don't fundamentally manage; they may not have the answer so avoid any response. I've experienced this face-to-face with my manager many times, and my emails ignored. I could go on for hours here, but I think I've made my point. I'm not a bitter ex-employee I'm glad to be made redundant and receive compensation. I was offered an opportunity to apply for another role but refused, it's just not worth spending so much of my working life swimming in these toxic conditions, 15+ years is quite enough. I feel sad for my friends at Future who remain in the circumstances I've escaped. If you plan to work for Future, know the above. You'll find this out for yourself once you've passed the honeymoon period of the shiny new job.

Thank you for posting feedback, since you are an ex-employee we are sorry you experienced tough situations. We always try to make sure our employees have the freedom to come with feedback to their line manager and otherwise to their HR-representative. The employees have ensured the success of Future and therefore we try to communicate as much as possible with them. We have gone through financial hardship in years passed and although our headcount did reduce, we hope that those who left the business feel they were treated fairly and understood the reasons for their departures. Working in the ever-changing media market, we must stay ahead of our competitors and being a leader within our market takes a lot of commitment from all of our people. We are very grateful of our teams because of their flexibility and passion for the company, without their skills and expertise we wouldn't be where we are now. With our increasing amount of internal comms, we communicate our positive but also more difficult changes so our staff are aware of what is happening within the company. Our main driver for this is to create stability for our staff and a sense of transparency. We are proud of our brands and the people who are a part of those brands. We also need to keep our focus forward and ensure we retain our talented people in the business to help us get there.

Pros

The pro of this company , was all the amazing people that have now left.

Cons

Everything : 1. You will not work, you will be slave driven every day without fail. 2. You will meet amazing people, and the next day they will disappear. This company has the fastest turnover in the history of uk companies. 3. You will then have to pick up the work of the leavers, because they sneakily do not replace / cannot replace headcount because good employees do not want to work at Future. 4. You will be undervalued, undermined, micromanaged and bullied at every turn. 5. Managers need training desperately. 6. The CEO Zillah micro managers every ounce of the company. She will tell you that you are "helping row the boat", whilst she gets all the benefits on DECK 1 , and you are left sinking in the "boiler room, tossing coals at the fire". 7. HR Department : Does not exist. Rumour has it most of that department have quit. So it is impossible to air opinions on the role /duties / or raise issues because there is no one with any experience to help. 8. You will be expected to work late nights and weekends to keep up with your workload. All of which is unpaid, as editorial deadlines loom. 9. Plagiarism is rife amongst the writers who are pushed to churn out tons of material in a short period of time. 10. Save yourself the bother asking for more money, the salaries do not even hit the std benchmark of the industry. This company has never heard of benchmarking. 11. Someone came up with a harebrained idea to use the "graduate scheme" to replace roles. They are using graduates to fulfil vacancies. 12. If you read any reviews on here that states " collaborative , fast paced " these are fake reviews written by management. To the person who is doing that , stop your fake reviews are obvious. 13. Finally diversity and inclusion does not exist, shocking for a media company that refuses to equally hire people of colour. A walk through the office floors is proof enough.
