Pros

WSOD is a great place to take your junior/mid level skill set, and hone them into a powerful and valuable asset. The environment is relaxed and informal, and opportunities are available for those that seek them out. There is a wealth of knowledge to tap into. Others are more than willing to lend a hand when it's needed, and the knowledge exchange is invaluable. You'll have a chance to work on high profile sites that will force you to build skills in performance, security, and scalability, while at the same time building your portfolio. Expectations are set high, and 80% of the time you're provided with the tools you need to be successful. If you know when/how to push back, and aren't afraid to ask for additional resources when you need them, the last 20% is workable.

Cons

The informal authority structure can lead to confusion, especially if you're the type that waits to be told what is happening. The pay is sub-par, and the hours are long. Expectations are high, and sometimes unrealistic. 50 hour weeks are standard, 60 hour weeks are not uncommon, and 70-80 hour weeks should be expected. How well you and your team handle stress, will determine how much you enjoy the job. A good team-leader/project manager can make or break the experience. Usually the project managers are great, but when they're not, it's the developers/QA that get the raw end of the deal.

Pros

The consulting business is still relatively small and growing. New associates are quickly entrusted with a lot of responsibility and early exposure a variety of projects. You can develop a range of skills in a brief period of time. People here are also very nice, laid-back, and willing to help.

Cons

The environment has traditionally been very family-oriented, and management seems to be afraid of ambitious, independent go-getters. The promotion process seems to favor those who need a helping hand. As a result, there is a lot of turnover at the lower level. Many are also unwilling to share recognition.

Pros

It is a good place to grow and learn new things. A lot of knowledge sharing goes on. Most of the employees are pretty smart. Also benefits are pretty good (free food). If you are starting your career this may be a good place to start out and then move on later.

Cons

I've heard Wall Street on Demand called a "Churn and Burn" company, and it is absolutely correct. They work you ragged at all hours of the day and expect quality work. The pay is pretty bad compared to the amount of time you are overworked. Many people have complained to upper management about this and they say they reward those who are good employees. I didn't see that happen very often. HR is well aware that they have problems firing people when they need to be fired (admitted in a meeting to the whole company). It reflects pretty poorly on the company that they don't seem to know how to manage their own employees. Toward the end of my time working there, the issue of resource management on the computers was becoming a huge problem. There were days I couldn't get work done because it took hours just to obtain what I needed to do work. Documentation is lacking for some clients because employees have no time to document the work, they only have time to fix problems and work on new projects.
