Values are going downhill, healthcare is business afterall, poor management prompting high turn over
Pros
Good benefits package, ongoing support for education within Mayo's growth project, dedicated staff, above average patient to nurse ratios Great place to START your career, but certainly not to live out your career here.
Cons
Within certain departments, there is a lot of toxic culture. Constant bullying that continues to be unaddressed by their "leadership." Those in management positions are so focused on climbing the ladder, and not actually being there for their people. With high turn over rates, the management team is still scratching their head as to why people are leaving. They do not know how to ask the right questions, and are very elitist in how they manage. So focused on xyz degree, xyz speciality, when in reality, experience and actual abilities should come first. At the end of the day, regardless of how many years you have served, you are replaceable. They are more willing to replace than to retain. Unwilling to be flexible on things like schedules and life events only place employees in a weird spot to choose their family or their career. High expectations to complete work out of work hours, and little room for overall career growth. Care is expensive here. Whether it is because you don't have the right insurance or all providers are booked, it's hard to get in. Seems like the majority of cared for at Mayo are the rich and privileged. Appointments are hard to get - even if your condition is time sensitive...requires patients to leave continuity of care within the system.
