Pros

Absolutely no pros after working there for 8 years in a mid-management level.

Cons

I have been working for RBC Capital Markets in Toronto for over 8 years. They are treating employees unfairly and all of the marketing they spend to put a facade that employees are treated fairly is incorrect. Be very careful - management has tactics to make your life miserable by working overtime with under staffed departments. We were working 7 days a week and 13 hours a day without compensation for over time. I was kicked out the door after 8 years of exceptional service. Senior management does not care about retention. Over 70% of the employees are outsourced to India. Canadians with full time salaries are being treated horribly so they will leave. This is not how a company should treat its employees. employees?

Pros

It's a stable job where it's virtually impossible to get fired. If you just want a job you can clock in and out of, you can probably be quite happy there. I'm just not one of those people.

Cons

It was like walking into a museum of bad practices. A very vertical chain of command structure, where the senior managers were the least versed in technology. All relevant decisions were handed down from above, with the bottom 3 layers (where 99% of software happens) almost completely dis-empowered to affect any kind of improvement. RBC appears to have learned nothing about how to run a software project in the past 20 years, and I don't see things changing in the near future.

Pros

The pay is decent BUT they will actively ask you to do them a favour and then use it as a reason to clawback your pay

Cons

My boss harasses me every chance he can behind closed doors and in team environments tells the team that they need to perform at my level. Recently he was harassing me while "high as a kite" and i responded by telling him i wasn't going to take it when he is like that and i would be ending the call. The next day he gave me a hard time for hanging up on him. I reminded him of the full story and he said it doesn't matter what the reason is, As he is my boss, I cannot disrespect him like that. When i brought this to HR they said they would look into it, it has been 6 weeks and when i checked on the status i was told there is no point in starting on it this close to the Christmas holidays. The company does not care about employees being high and harassing employees. I have seen them actively take 2 women who went on mat leave and refuse to give fair wages or cost of living increases for multiple years after mat leave. This company ABSOLUTELY has a gender pay gap in every role i have seen in this company.
