      It's a great place to work -- but better if you're working in a department other than GPMS.

      Pros

      Cengage's Mason office offers great benefits, a pleasant work environment and professional colleagues.

      Cons

      The GPMS division is looked down upon by other divisions, which makes interdepartmental mobility difficult. Despite receiving excellent annual reviews while working in Cengage's production group, despite earning an MBA, and despite having nearly 10 years of editorial experience prior to working at Cengage, I could not get hired into their editorial group.

      Pros

      The environment is laid back and flexible. The people are those I would be friends with in real life. That's important when you spend most of your waking hours at a place. Benefits are generous.

      Cons

      Pay is too low. The culture is moving slowly away from a hierarchical, siloe'd, communication controlled quagmire into something more flexible and dynamic.
