An awful place to work

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

A few sales execs can make good money if they're working on certain titles, but INK likes to move goalposts at regular intervals to make sure nobody's hitting too many targets. Some decent people in the ranks.

Cons

A culture of bullying both on sales floor and elsewhere in the company. Strange management clique who too often spout gibberish and are abusive either in a passive-aggressive way or just openly hostile. Rumours of sexual harrassment. Generally produce magazines/websites that are unimaginative and all too often identikit copies of one another even down to same headlines and sections. Rather dull products that lack flair, quality and insight. Absence of creative leadership. Far too often the corporate culture is about cutting corners and saving money. Revolving door across departments. Very few people last longer than a couple of years.

We dispute a number of the points that are raised here as they are just 100% inaccurate.

Pros

You get to work with some of the best marketers in the region, and the work culture is applaudable. Games every morning and breakfast together once a week build up the teamwork.

Cons

They change the commission structure every now and then just to take away as much commission which you deserved as possible. The new "revolution" - making 10 effective calls a day to ensure we get 10% commission is the worst management decision Ink has ever made. It is near impossible, and instead of getting commission of what you sell, you get a miserable 1-2% because of your "effective calls" KPI. I see people quitting the company every week and people who'd been with the company very long quit after the revolution was introduced. The group publishers chase the team for sales like ventures, micromanaged and snooped around the workplace quite often. Not pleasant to have people breathing down your neck constantly for booking at all.

Thank you for your feedback. We understand that sales environment is fast paced and that management sometimes may require longer working hours, but that is the business today. Unfortunately, today’s competitive environment does not allow global business to blink even for a second. Commission structure at Ink has been consistent, and clear over the last few years, and it’s paid to employees on a monthly basis, providing the accounts have been settled. Our incentives consists of various financial and non-financial awards, and we aim to take all our teams on incentive trips every quarter. We do that to reward performance and show our appreciation, and not because we expect our employees to be grateful or in debt to a company. Like we have mentioned before, many things have changed during the past couple of years and we are now looking at the new stage in our development and success.

Pros

You can make decent money here if you put the work in. No qualms about it, this is truly an inside sales position and you are expected to make phone calls, your pay check truly depends on it.

Cons

Constant Micro - Management. Passive aggressive management culture behind closed doors about employees. Management immediately makes snap and irrational decisions at the drop of a hat without all the real facts. Ink has a horrible reputation from an employment (revolving door, just ask the employees who are suing them) and customer perspective. I loved hearing advertisers scream at me and tell me never to call them again. A lot of smoke and mirrors with what the company wants as their culture and how they find a way to screw the employee at the end of the month when commissions are paid out. Would you like me to continue?

You have raised some serious issues here, and we have definitely taken all the feedback on board. It’s been many years since you have posted this feedback and Ink has changed immensely in the terms of recruiting, training and doing business. In recent years we have employed some exceptionally respectable leaders and talent to guide us through to new conquests.
