Pros

The company is well-respected in the Construction industry and it is very profitable. Senior managers were approachable. Benefits were fair, although salary poor.

Cons

Salaries are too low and below national average, despite the fact the head office is located in the City where salaries are traditionally higher. The company is very profitable but that's only because they like to cut costs and don't invest in their staff. I finally had to leave after two years without a pay rise, despite the fact that my appraisals were excellent and the company was making a billion turnover. I left for a similar job with a salary that is forty percent more than what I was making at Mace, which just goes to show you how low the salaries at Mace are. Consequently, the people who work at Mace are of a lower calibre, and not ambitious or bright enough to get high-flying jobs elsewhere. Managers liked to micro-manage. They also encouraged competition between colleagues, which caused a lot of tension in our department.

Pros

Competitive 401k match, immediately vested

Cons

White British boys club in North America. If you’re not that you’re going nowhere fast. Even those who are it’s a toss up. Slow to promote the ones bringing repeat clients/fee. Only way to get market pay / title is to be hired in when they are desperate then drink lots of beer with ‘leadership’ at the nearby dingy Irish pub. Below market pay. High turnover. Zero training for line management and it shows. Does not invest in American staff at all. Limited to no resources to do the job. It’s a running joke how few if any have a functioning laptop. No IT. No bid team. No standards except inapplicable UK centric. Every line of support quits faster than they can be replaced. Miracle they have any clients left. Multiple exodus of leadership over the years has left what remains a hollow shell of a company. A handful of die hards remain who couldn’t hold the same job elsewhere due to a mix of unprofessionalism and or incompetence. Revolving door for qualified decent staff, white men looking for easy visas in Nyc and fresh grads who don’t know any better. UK treats NA arm as a cash cow. Constantly seeking out new lines of business via expensive new director level hires who fail to bring said work while ignoring the projects and people they already have. Unsustainable short term business planning.

Pros

I met a few fantastic people, but they were contractors.

Cons

Owners (directors) of the Company are untouchable. They do whatever they want (even if it's breaking the Client's requirements or risking confidential Information being exposed). The company's directors are overpromissing to the Clients and then ignoring Client's Protocols and Procedures. Women in supporting roles (PA, Administrator, Document Controller, Junior PM) are underpaid and disrespected. Most of the time you have to work overtime and you wouldn't get paid for it or at least appreciated. Be careful with the lies during interviews. You'll be promised a lot, but when you join Mace - No support or direction, but lots of blame if the senior management makes mistakes. I was not allowed to speak up and if I raised an issue with a Senior Management I'd be ignored. Also, No transparency. One set of rules apply to Directors and people they favour and completely different rules are for employees. Mace shouldn't even have HR as it's useless. The work environment is based on a fear and feeling suppressed.
