      Pros

      Management at Extra Space is the best I've ever seen. They genuinely care about the staff and want us to feel fulfilled and challenged. My manager always gives me sound, educated advice but allows me to work through issues or come up with ideas for improvement on my own when appropriate. I always feel supported and empowered by my manager. One of the best things about working for Extra Space Storage is that I know the things I do matter. If I accept challenge and change with a positive attitude, work with integrity, and consistently do my best every day, it is noticed and it matters. If I were to resist challenge or change, have a poor attitude, avoid getting my job done, or act with anything less than impeccable integrity, that would also be noticed and would also matter. Depending on a person's own work ethic, they may or may not like working here for those reasons. You also need to be able to understand and carry out your work and be willing to continue to learn and improve.

      Cons

      There really aren't any. Extra Space is a fantastic company.

      Pros

      When I was first presented with the opportunity to interview at Extra Space Storage, I thought storage sounded so boring (I was currently working at a huge online retailer).. but I researched the company and heard nothing but good things, and am so glad I took the job here almost two years ago! Even though storage isn't the most thrilling product, what I love about ESS is that they are always trying to keep their employees excited and involved, and are constantly growing and changing to keep up with technology and trends. They completely renovated the office space so it's very modern and open, there is free coffee, soda, and fruit, monthly office socials, food truck parties just to show the employees their appreciation, holiday parties, summer parties, and more! The benefits are fantastic - great medical, dental, vision, PTO, incentives to stay healthy and fit, 401K, and more.. The executive team is by far the best I've ever worked with- there are no egos (rare nowadays!), they value their employees' opinions, they remain transparent with everything going on with the company, and take the time to get to know each employee. Joe (the CEO) is by far the nicest CEO I've ever worked with as well. There's a reason why we've become one of the best places to work!

      I would say the training has lacked a little bit, but we just barely rolled out a new training program so that took care of it!

      Accounting department is struggling

      Pros

      Average benefits, lots of growth, and job security. It's good experience for new college graduates that have never worked in accounting before.

      Cons

      The accounting department is really struggling. They have a huge staff and it's not organized very well. Current set up is really inefficient and the pay is pretty low. They have people with accounting degrees performing customer service and secretarial tasks. The company is growing so much that they're constantly increasing our workload but not our pay. Property accountants are forced to fill too many roles. There's a lot of pressure to meet deadlines and take on more work in less time. The company is growing but they won't increase our head count. Work isn't distributed evenly (check other reviews, some say it's a great Work/life balance and others say it's terrible). The good people have way more responsibility but aren't compensated for it. There is really high turnover in this department. Some people quit within a couple days or weeks and few make it more than a year. The turnover puts even more stress on those that stay. Everyone is burning out and it's creating a terrible work environment.
