Pros

If you like working alone and making money for this greedy company that won't return some of those vast profits down to the people making them, then this is the place for you.

Cons

Worked 2 years as an assistant manager and was told upon first being hired that I would move between 2 sites to assist the managers of those 2 sites. That was not the case of course. Within a few weeks I was working 4 different sites a week traveling all across our district and not being reimbursed for my mileage since the DM/DLS never informed me how the reimbursement worked. Upon discovering this month's later I was told I was SOL on those past months... For some reason I stayed any way and continued to be thrown around the district, working 4 different sites a week. Never getting weekends off and never having the same day off. They then expect you to basically harass your customers to no end with phone calls of some 'new' procedure that they will scrap in a few weeks. The corporate HQ is an embarrassment as they treat their employees like numbers because that is what ESS cares about most. I have never seen a company care so little about keeping their employees happy, but they sure do like to come down on you if one of your hundred different metrics is in the red. The straw that broke the camels back was that I was requesting bereavement and was told that if I could not find someone to cover I would be denied bereavement, I didn't even know they could do that but I guess they can.

Pros

insurance, sundays off, some of the employees you work with are good people getting screwed just as you are.

Cons

Thought it was going to be ok, but what is sad is that they merged a company with them, and its been just a few days shy of being 3 months, and have yet to put those employees to what Extra Space employees make the merged employees are being told to wait till the end of the year! but are hiring new people and putting them at the Extra Space pay rate. This is not fair. You do not get Saturday's unless you use your hard earned PTO time. It's Mandatory that you work Saturday's and Monday's unless you use PTO time and its granted. You get one specific day off a week and Sunday's. The DTL of the area can change their day off anytime they want including Saturday's and Monday's even when the rest of the team was told those days were mandatory to work. There is NO work/life balance only a work life, you will not see your family. Work maybe a little easy with just one person, but having double coverage even for a slow property is good to have as then the store manager would not be burnt out.

Pros

You are walking around a lot, so great for exercise and the staff was very friendly. I appreciated my DM, as they did try the best they could to run the district being short staffed and dealing with sites that had multiple break ins

Cons

Manager above DM never came through on promises to give site the proper tool needed to help run it efficiently High turnovers You don’t get paid enough for what you have to deal with, because your not only a salesman, your a referee, therapist, janitor, maintenance worker, and a detective Demanding sales goals to meet Even though I did great with my ratings on shops, there were way too many that came in and wasted my time when I was the only manager on site and took me away from a REAL customer They started tracking how many times their facilities answered incoming calls and we were expected to answer each call, even when we were single staffed trying to run the facility to its fullest capacity. It came off to me as being micromanaged and lack of trust in employees fulfilling their responsibilities Just a lot of overall unnecessary pressure to rent an empty box Corporate Management implemented policies for field management that looked good on paper, but made it harder to do our jobs out in the field After the pandemic, ESS expected us to justify $80+ rate increases to customers, when ESS corporate are the ones that implemented this to automatically change in there account system in the first place, so yes the customers were not happy Pay range is on the lower end and does not accommodate the cost of living in the more expensive cities to live in
