We have ambitious goals to modernize a 146-year old company to ensure we remain a top Canadian P&C insurer with our focus on our customers and to continue to be an award winning employer. And it’s often the case that tremendous changes, like the ones Economical is currently implementing, take time. But while we’re going through changes, including increased expenses and some workforce reductions in areas where we’re moving to technology solutions, the company remains very secure. We hold an A+ (Excellent) rating with A.M.Best for our financial strength, and our strategic changes will ensure we remain a vibrant company well into the future.       Staff members are great and stick together because everything else is mayhem.

      Cons

      Was lured to job with dishonesty about role and duties. No help whatsoever to new employees, just left to flounder and figure things out on our own. HR is a joke. With constant layoffs and firings, staff members always fearful of their jobs.

      Decent benefits package. Reliable bonus structure. Some great coworkers.

      Politics and bullying is the only way to get ahead. Saw all my IT department coworkers go through the same garbage with the same horrendous manager and all of us went to HR and management at one point or another. All complaints ignored as the management wagons circled. No interest whatsoever in getting the job done and done right. It is all about individual power trips and agendas. So many good people lost. Hard work is irrelevant. It is all about kissing the right ass. The HR department did everything possible to screw me over after I complained about management. They have no interest in employee rights, only creating an environment where people are afraid to complain.
