Pros

- Stack is nice if they place you to the right team - There are nice people who genuinely care about you, but they have no power - RRSP matching wise great

Cons

- you might never get to work on the project you thought you were offered - very delivery focused, narcissistic, dishonest manager, lies about job placement - overtime, weekend included - tickets are time based, bugs don't count as time - manager actively disses refactoring - performance are evaluated based on stories closed, you will be switched out of the team if you don't perform - Not much health benefits, they are taken from your own pocket

Pros

My colleagues are really wonderful!

Cons

Despite CONSTANT lip service to the contrary, their mental health coverage is pathetic. We're told all the time about how much management cares and all the services they provide us, but it's not even close to adequate. We're given an option to visit one of their provider's counsellors, but it is only for short term care. On top of that I purchased Eco's max medical plan for which I pay out of pocket each month, and I'm covered for 8 additional sessions with a private clinician. Restrictions on approved providers, of course. In total? That is 4 months of mental health support. If that's all you need, fantastic! But particularly during a pandemic when more people than ever need ongoing support this is beyond unacceptable. They say they care, over and over they tell us how much they care about their employees, but they do not.

We care about you very much, and we’re sorry to hear you’re going through a difficult time. Please contact HR Shared Services by email or phone — we’re here for you, and we would like to help you understand and access all the employee mental health supports available to you. Other supports could include options like: • Paid sick days and salary continuation for short-term medical absences • Reduced work week options • Leaves of absence We understand that sometimes, employees need professional services beyond what’s covered in our programs and flexible benefits offerings. You have somewhere to turn when things are tough. In addition to HR Shared Services, you can talk to your leader or a LifeWorks counsellor to help you determine the best path forward. Please get in touch, and let’s get started. Your health and wellbeing matter to us, and there are many resources and tools available that can help.

Pros

Great people trying to do great work.

Cons

Company has invested a lot of money to introduce new Technology systems but are unable / unwilling to bring in the right people to maintain and move that solution forward. This has led to a over reliance on external Consulting services that you wonder who is actually the client. The actual employees are constantly being asked to maintain and do more with less. Less time, less resources, etc and are barely paid acceptable market salary for their job function. Useless executive leadership (that was almost entirely turned over within 1 year due to complete ineffectiveness) that has led to ineffective Director Level leadership. The few good ones quickly learn that this company is going nowhere and have departed.

Thanks for sharing your views. We’re proud of our employees and the work they’re doing, and how they’re supporting our evolving business. With transformation comes change, and it can easily feel overwhelming and the bigger picture can become obscured. This is why it’s so important to maintain open dialogue, and for our company to continue investing in great people and in industry-leading systems. Maintaining and advancing our skilled and creative workforce and the technology that supports it is an integral part of our business strategy. We’re excited to be on the path to becoming the first Canadian mutual property and casualty insurance company to go public. Economical has purposefully cultivated a highly skilled and engaged executive team over several years to lead this historic transformation. In terms of “market salary,” our HR teams regularly review and adjust our compensation and benefits to be competitive for the industry and the area. We also offer a number of additional perks like paid volunteer and personal-needs days, among many other wellness-focused initiatives. Thoughtful engagement with consultants lets us obtain expertise for short-term initiatives while allowing our employees to stay focused on delivering top-notch products and services to our brokers and customers without having to resize our workforce. We’re sorry to hear you were unhappy with your experience with our company. Feedback helps us to make continued improvements and we appreciate that you took the time to provide it.
