Pros

My coworkers are the best reason to work here but that won't last long if Economical continues to run the way it's running. Most of the people I know are looking elsewhere where they will actually be valued and treated well as employees - monetarily and emotionally.

Cons

The executives don't actually care about what's going on in the offices. They show up for annual meetings and that's it. No rewards for good workers, and they ignore poor performance by other workers just so they can keep numbers steady. Head office and executives continue to enjoy and celebrate holidays while their front line people (claims staff) are treated like assembly line workers with no rewards. -The only rewards the top performers get is more work that they cant trust the poor performers to do. But the poor performers continue to be paid the same. -Team leaders are not on the same page as each other or the same page as upper management. Things are not communicated down to staff. -Team leaders are not equipped with mental health training when their staff is clearly struggling. As long as we are producing numbers, they are happy, regardless of if we are struggling mentally. -No flexibility in hours or options to work from home. -No room to move up unless you have family working in head office or elsewhere in the company.

Thank you for taking time to share your thoughts. At Economical, we care deeply about maintaining a culture that’s balanced and rewarding for all employees, so it’s concerning to us to hear your perspective. Any of our team members who are struggling with their mental health are encouraged to take advantage of the complimentary counseling support and total health solutions offered through our employee assistance program, in addition to talking to their doctor/health care provider. Wellness is highly valued here, which is why we partner with this service, in addition to offering personal needs days and wellness initiatives throughout the year. The work you do in claims is making a difference and it’s the reason we have achieved our long-standing 91% claims satisfaction rating. Our management teams are encouraged to applaud and reward employees through our recognition program, Aspire Higher. Economical offers a competitive salary, pension and saving programs, and flexible benefits to further reward and support our staff. Our front-line claims teams have set hours and location requirements to support our corporate value of customer focus. We need to be there for our policyholders when they need us most, so the crucial roles you and your colleagues play here cannot be underestimated. We’re sorry you felt lack of support in career development. We support our employees talent and ambitions through programs such as paid professional educational support and paid days off for exam study. We have regular engagement surveys — including one this month — to gather honest, anonymous feedback and use it to affect change wherever it is necessary. Please use that opportunity to pass on your feedback and/or contact HR Shared Services to discuss concerns in person.

Pros

Good team environment, manageable workload, good benefits

Cons

poor management communication on expectations, stiff workplace (Timed bathroom and lunches), not a lot of opportunity for growth, makes it challenging to want to stay especially for younger employees
