Pros

Was a good company until 2010. After the demutualization process started, everything changed for the worst. Present employees need to understand the ultimate motive of the company, especially the potential share value to the present and future shareholders. This will explain why they are doing what they are doing to you.

Cons

The ones who control the company are just "fattening the turkey" for the ultimate takeover when you are finally demutualized.

Pros

Lots of change equals plenty of opportunity, generally. Good employee programs (fitness credits, volunteer programs, reward programs) Good community consciousness.

Cons

A bit unstable in terms of direction. Continuous senior leadership changes. Building a dependency on consulting partners, which creates pressure on internal staff, decreases morale, and creates a rift (us vs.them) mentality amongst staff.

Pros

The company has undergone some major changes over the last 2 years and there are more changes on the horizon. It's not typical for insurance companies to be open to change. You'll have some fantastic coworkers to work with!

Cons

The work life balance is just not there, due to poor staffing and a lack of understanding of what the job entails on a regional management level. Although corporate has a strong wellness focus, it's all for show. Reality is that Underwriters work late/come in on weekends to keep heads above water. This results in some very burnt out staff that are afraid of admitting they are burnt out for fear of being labeled "weak" or "lazy". The company had aggressive growth targets, so the pressure is on.
