Pros

Economical has many good people on board that help make the time there more enjoyable.

Cons

Management has created a toxic environment where employees are forced to find loopholes in working to keep up with the demand. It creates poor relationships with coworkers and fosters bad career habits. Management expects high numbers and praise those who have taken advantage of the system in order to inflate their numbers while people who complete things ethically are told they’re not doing enough. It’s almost impossible to get ahold of managers and most of the time emails are left unresponded to and MS Teams messages are opened and ignored. Economical is not a bad company, but they are completely unwilling to invest in innovating their systems and processes. There is a dangerous amount of room for error in every transaction and each employee is held personally responsible for mistakes that could be easily avoided through updating systems. Economical is in the process of demutualizing and must adapt to modern technology. Manual systems are outdated, time consuming and inaccurate. Using systems like this will hold the company back from being a top insurance company.

Poor management. Favoritism

Recommend
Business Outlook

Pros

Easy transition to WFH Education reimbursement

Cons

***High*** turn over rate. Some people just need to get out of there for their own mental health...or be fired because you can't keep up with impossible metrics. Literally unachievable goals, even lower management says metrics are impossible to meet, but executives don't seem to care. Why would they care? Lack of effort on technology development. No advancement unless you're buddy with the team lead or your parents and/or spouse are executives; undeniable favoritism. Experience and skills replaced by those that don't question anything (why even bother questioning a process when no matter what you say, it's wrong?) Management lacks compassion on work overload but this is most likely due to higher management looking at nothing but numbers alongside unattainable goals. Taking a sick day, God forbid more than 1 in a row is fround upon. Leads to questioning of character integrity, disapproval and negative perception by management. Customer, customer, customer... NEVER employees :( Major Con: With current demutualization in the works, there is literally no concern for current employees as the focus is reducing all costs as much as possible at the expense of overworked front line employees. Mutual policy holders are the ONLY ones that will benefit from this even though non policy holding employees are severely pressured because of this. Again, money over it all. Don't let too many recent positive reviews fool you, this is all being monitored prior to IPO in order drive up stock price.

Pros

My colleagues are really wonderful!

Cons

Despite CONSTANT lip service to the contrary, their mental health coverage is pathetic. We're told all the time about how much management cares and all the services they provide us, but it's not even close to adequate. We're given an option to visit one of their provider's counsellors, but it is only for short term care. On top of that I purchased Eco's max medical plan for which I pay out of pocket each month, and I'm covered for 8 additional sessions with a private clinician. Restrictions on approved providers, of course. In total? That is 4 months of mental health support. If that's all you need, fantastic! But particularly during a pandemic when more people than ever need ongoing support this is beyond unacceptable. They say they care, over and over they tell us how much they care about their employees, but they do not.
